One cubic meter (CM) corresponds to one cubic meter of stacked logs, including the air spaces. When sawing and splitting into oven-sized pieces, the volume decreases as the wood pieces become denser. Drying can also cause the wood to shrink by up to 15%.

A loose cubic meter (SCM), on the other hand, describes one cubic meter of loosely stacked logs. Because there is more air space between the logs, a SCM takes up more space than a neatly stacked cubic meter.

For firewood to burn cleanly and efficiently, the residual moisture content should be below 20%. Damp wood produces more smoke, less heat, and can damage the fireplace in the long run. Our wood is kiln-dried and has a guaranteed residual moisture content of between 14-16% – for optimal combustion.

Delivery is by truck equipped with a lifting platform and an electric pallet jack. The pallet is placed at the curbside; however, on solid ground, it can also be placed under your carport or in a covered area.

Hardwoods such as beech, oak, or robinia are ideal for fireplaces because they have a particularly high calorific value. Beechwood is considered one of the best wood types because it burns for a long time, generates plenty of heat, and develops a beautiful glow.

To ensure the wood fits perfectly in your fireplace or stove, we recommend leaving at least 3 cm of space at both ends of the logs. Our firewood is available in 25 cm lengths—it's best to measure your fireplace beforehand.

Depending on storage conditions, untreated wood needs to dry for between 10 months and 2 years to achieve an optimal residual moisture content of less than 20%. Ideally, it should be stacked in a well-ventilated area and protected from rain.

Oak wood requires special storage: Before covering, it should be left uncovered for a summer so that the moisture-binding tannins are washed out.

Our firewood already has the residual moisture content and therefore doesn't need to be dried. It can be burned directly in the firebox.

No, fresh wood should not be stored in enclosed spaces. Without air circulation, mold or mildew can quickly develop. Open, well-ventilated storage is crucial for successful drying.

OAKAGE Premium firewood can be stored both outdoors and indoors.

This depends on the type of wood and storage:

• Hardwood such as beech and oak can be stored for up to 5 years without loss of quality.
• Softwoods such as pine or fir should be used within 2 years as they absorb moisture more quickly and are more susceptible to pests.
• Oak wood can develop sapwood pests after a few years if stored improperly.
